Questo studio evidenzia - tra altri aspetti - un rapporto tra la precocità nei primi rapporti sessuali delle ragazze e la prevalenza di HIV nel loro gruppo. Le adolescenti di Kisumu e Ndola hanno in particolare rapporti sessuali precoci con uomini di età più avanzata, e la prevalenza delle malattie sessuali trasmissibili tra loro è più elevata che nelle altre città studiate.
